Shonn took Harper to her third Daddy-Daughter Dance Friday night. She loves going and especially looks forward to the wrist corsage, or “flower bracelet”. He makes her feel so special! (And of course she loves dressing up!) They ate dinner at the Alamo first and then headed to the dance at Broadway Christian Church.
Meanwhile, Beck and I enjoyed a night together of pizza, treasure X, and cuddling.
A few recent funny and sweet phrases from Beckett, before I forget them:
1. Harper crying at nap. Beckett: "She's the grumpy dwarf on Snow White."
2. Lexi trying to get his Teddy Grahams. Beckett says, "No, Lexi!" She does it again. "Lexi, you are going to have a timeout for not listening."
3. "I want to pray for Daddy because he works so hard. And Mee Maw and Papa's camper."
4. While eating breakfast... "One spring day, there was a donut. What's your name, donut? You don't have a name because you're a donut. I'm going to eat you now."
5. While watching Lion King, Timone and Pumba start crying. "They need a paci!"
6. After Nemo... "Why did the diver get Nemo?" I told him because he didn't listen to his Daddy. "That was naughty like Peter Rabbit."
7. While playing with the potato heads, I asked him their names. "They don't have names. They are just the potato heads. These are their babies. (Smaller potato heads) They cry a lot."
I love our funny, sweet, smart boy. He is so sensitive and perceptive. And SO loving. (It melts my heart when he says, "mommy, I want to pray for you.") I'm so lucky!
Beckett asked me for some milk. When I came back to the playroom with it, he was wearing this hat and said, "hey, mom." It cracked me up. Then he said, "ding the Hakuna Matata song!"
I'm not sure if this is a testament to his verbal skills or the frequency with which he goes out to eat, but Beckett has started ordering his own food when we go to restaurants. It typically goes something like, "I'd like this, this, and this one." Or "i want hamburger, chicken, fries, and drink!" Or, if he's really hungry, "I want all. I NEED it!" The latter was the case on Saturday at Steak & Shake. Then he ate all of his fries and chicken tenders and one of my hamburger sliders. And a drink. ;)
Little ladybug got dressed up for the occasion. You know what they say..."the bigger the bow, the better the momma."
Beckett was on a roll today! Here are a few of his one-liners:
There's a horse! (Me: Where?) oh, we already passed it.
(Me: There's the thicket!) ooh, I want to take a peek in there.
(Me: what animal would you like to be?) An eagle! I can fly. With you, mommy! We go together in the sky!
I want to swim in the ocean. (We list every sea creature we can think of,) I poke sea anemones. They are squishy.
There's a buggy. I like em.
I chase me! Chase me, mommy!
I'm a T. rex. I'm going to roar sissy.
(Do you need a new diaper?) goodness, no!
(Referencing the librarian) what's her name? (You may ask her, if you'd like.) what's your name? (Mrs. Lane. What's yours?) Beckett James Hild. (Subsequently, to everyone we saw today) What's your name? What's your name?
(While sipping a fruit smoothie) I like smoothies. Mmm. Scrumptious.
I wanna eat cake.
You're my friend, momma.
(And still one of my all-time favorites). Hold you, Momma.
Today's finale, though, was him eating a pickle...in the bath tub.
Mee Maw and Papa Kracht came over this morning for all kinds of fun. First, we hid buttons in this sparkly stuff and had to find them. That turned into making some cool wigs!
Then we made some sugar cookie dough and added food coloring for a sugar cookie project we might finish when they come over this afternoon.
Beckett wanted to put his tennis shoes on first thing this morning so he could "Zoom like a cheetah". Then he ran around the kitchen yelling, "Runs like a Deere! Runs like a Deere!" It was hilarious. After a little while, he decided to put Papa's boots on over his shoes. He told us he was like an elephant on Jungle Book, ("Boom, Boom, Boom.")
I also read the book Boogie Monster and Beckett and Mee Maw acted out all of the dance moves. Here, they are dancing like they are riding a bike.
Another fun couch-bound activity is watching my guys wrestle. I tried to take a video of this because it was hilarious, but apparently, I need to delete some pictures because my storage is full. They were both laughing so hard and Beckett was jumping around like a wild thing. He has made the connection about the father-son relationship and often says things like, "Bambi's daddy, like my daddy." This particular wrestling session was brought on by a scene in Bambi 2 where Bambi is trying to head butt his dad. It was really cute.
Beckett also likes to yell, "COWABUNGA" prior to jumping on someone or something. :)
Here is the craft we made today. It was quick and easy. And cute! Beckett remembered the word smock from the last time we painted, too, and he really wanted a leprechaun on the rainbow, which he said "God made". (He learned that from Noah's story.)
We found some cute pirate crafts on Pinterest tonight and made a couple of masks. As soon as I put one on Beckett, he said, "ARRGH, Matey." I think he learned this from when I have put shirts with a pirate on him, but I'm amazed at how much he remembers!
Kris, Jodi, and Anna got Beckett this awesome book with 10 dinosaur sounds. He loves it! He especially likes the sound of the stegosaurus and mimics all of them after he says their name. He was lying on his stomach reading this book and when I asked him what dino he was looking at, he glanced up at me and growled, then said, Stegosaurus RARR-ING! Lexi was sniffing him out to make sure he wasn't really a dinosaur...
Last weekend he was only naming a few. Now he names T-Rex, Brontosaurus, Stegosaurus, Anklyosaurus, Spinosaurus, Ickthyosaurus, and Pterodactyl. (I realize those are all probably spelled incorrectly, but I think my 21 month-old might be the only one who knows that.) HA!
Beckett has been really into dinosaurs lately. I got a few books at the library and the Disney movie Dinosaur, and then today, Mee Maw did a cool Stegosarus craft with him. She also brought these really neat mini dinosaurs that get bigger when you add water. Beckett was taking them all out and naming them - Stegosaurus, T-Rex, Brontosaurus, and Triceratops. He did it a few times and then I tried to get some of it on video. He amazes me! I'm sure all moms feel that way. <3 p="">
Well, some bad news today... We woke up and Beckett's right eye was really seeping and swollen. I knew right away he must have picked up the pink eye bug from his buddies. He didn't sleep well last night, so I had a feeling something was up. The sad eye was confirmation. Shonn took him to the doctor today, and she confirmed: pink eye with the added bonus of an ear infection. SAD. Shonn raved about our doctor, Amy Leifheit, who is so loving (she told Beckett "I love you, sweetie!") and patient. Beckett wasn't quite as enthusiastic, greeting me with, "Doctor cry. Cry doctor." Shonn said he just wanted to watch the fish in the aquarium in the waiting room and wasn't happy about leaving them. I asked B why he cried and he said, "Scared." SAD! But he did really well and Shonn treated him to a s-h-a-k-e on the way home. (He treated his wife to a b-l-i-z-z-a-r-d, too. XO)
But Beckett was as happy as can be tonight. My mom said he was cuddly this morning, but they still did a cute Valentine's Day craft, wrote letters for his mailbox, and read his new books "at least 10 times each". She said he was telling her what the dinosaurs were, and on one page she said, "Triceratops," to which Beckett replied, "No. Stegasaurus." HAHA! Dad said Beckett was going to teach them about the dinosaurs. So since the guys were on their way home behind me and I had a few extra minutes, I stopped at the library and got a few more dino books and the Disney movie Dinosaur. I wanted to treat him with a super-fun night since he isn't feeling well. Shonn went to a basketball game, so I had a couch date with my little man: we read a few dino books (on every page, he would ask, "Name is?"), ate popcorn and gummy bears, and then watched about 25 minutes of the dino movie. It was fun, and he was very interested.
He did really well with the "eye candy" drops, and was smiley and his usual sunny self tonight. If only we could all be as happy - what a different world it would be!
Sad eyes, but happy boy in the bath. He was splashing Mommy and laughing hysterically.
My mom met Beckett and I at about 8:30 this morning for a trip to Champaign and lunch in Tuscola. I needed to get a shower gift and go to Sam's for some basics. Beckett was up late last night and early this morning, so I had a feeling he would be a little sleepy. I made breakfast at home (his favorite - "potatoes"), we got bundled up, and headed out. He fell asleep on the way, so I ran into Sam's while he and mom stayed cozy in the warm car.
Then we went to Hobby Lobby (Beckett calls it "Holly Bobby"), Barnes and Noble, and Toys R Us. Beckett got some new books - his favorite! - and we could have spent the entire day there, reading all the books! As it was, we ready probably 25!
Then we went to Tuscola to meet my bestie, Maria, and her wonderful mom, Cathy, for lunch! We love this little place in Tuscola called the Soda Shoppe (actually, I can't remember what it's actual name is - HA!). We've been there a couple of times now, and they have homemade desserts and candy, along with a great menu of lunch items. Beckett picked out gummy bears and a chocolate fish for Daddy.
It was SO good to see Maria and catch up!
When we got home, we took a nice nap! Then I made dinner and we got out Beckett's new books to read. I also got him a little mailbox for the playroom. (Melissa and Doug stuff is awesome!) He wrote a letter to his two Mee Maws and drew a picture for Daddy. I wrote him a letter and we "mailed" them all. I think he will have fun with the mailbox because he loves talking about Daddy getting the mail. :)
Now, he's sleeping next to me, all snuggled up! It was a great day. :)
This morning, Beckett woke up hungry, which really isn't different than any other day, but instead of saying, "Potatoes" when I asked what he wanted, he said, "Pancakes!" We made pancakes, but to be safe, I still made eggs with sausage and potatoes. He ate it all! (He also got to put his own sprinkles on the pancakes, as you can see in the picture...) He's wearing Toy Story PJs from Papa as part of our date night movie. :)
After breakfast, we played with toys and read lots of books. He wanted to know where Daddy, Papa(s) and Mee Maw(s) were, so we inspected the map. He can say SOOO Falls and 'Dee-ana for Indiana.
He found his keys from his stocking, so we made a cardboard car with personalized plates for him to use them on. (This was after he told me, BYE BYE, MOMMY. GOIN TO WORK, and opened the door to the garage to get in "MOMMY'S CAR".)
We took a nice nap. When we woke up, we had lunch and then Beckett spotted the snow!
It was really cold outside, but I told him he could help me get the mail and go down the slide one time. (He kept saying, SNOW ON SLIDE? FUN!) It was a blast, even though we were only out for about 5 minutes total, divided into the back yard first and the front yard to the mailbox and back afterwards. He was fascinated with his gloves, and I am so glad we got to use his snowpants! He didn't mind getting all bundled up, although everyone I've shown this picture to says he looks like the little boy from The Christmas Story. Haha!
We came in and had some yummy hot cocoa to warm up. He said, "MMM! Delicous!" twice after his first sip. It was hilarious!
It was another great day of break. Lots of laughing, cuddling, and making memories. I'm so thankful for this time.
Mom and I took Beckett on the Monticello train for Lunch with Santa. It was so much fun! On the way there, we got a Thomas the Train juice to set the mood. (He has probably only seen about 5 minutes of a Thomas the Train show, but he recognzies him everywhere!) We sang songs on the way and arrived at the depot around 9:30. The depot is really cool - decorated like an old time train station.
We got our tickets for the gold train and headed out to prepare for boarding.
Here we are getting ready to board. Beckett really loved the train and kept saying, "Train, go? Go now? Choo! Choo!"
Finally, we departed, and Beckett kept looking out the window for "animals", "big bucks", and "wolves". I think he looks so grown up here!
On the train, Beckett got to meet Santa and tell him what he wanted for Christmas. (This is a completely new concept on so many levels!) He didn't act afraid or anything; in fact, when Santa walked onto our car, he exclaimed, "TANTA!"
I got a kiss and Grammy got a snuggle:
It was such a fun ride. I hope we can do it again next year.
