Tree Hugger

We had a picnic at the park for lunch and Beckett wanted to climb this beautiful magnolia tree. In one of the pictures, he is also looking for honey, honey bees, and honeycomb. :) we are ready for spring!

2-Year Appointment

Beckett's two-year appointment was at the same time as Harper's one month. He is 34" and 28 pounds, which is 50% for weight and 25% for height. He is way ahead of every developmental milestone, especially in communication. Dr. Leifheit was especially impressed with his use of pronouns, possessives, and complete-complex sentences. Physically, he is also on track, able to walk backwards, soon, go up and down stairs with alternating feet, stack blocks, color and manipulate a pencil with the correct grip.

He had to have a shot and lead screening, both not too fun. The blue lollipop and Mater sticker almost made up for it.

He is such a sweetie! Here are some pictures from the appointment.

Swimming like a Fish...

...or a stingray.
...or a shark.
...or an octopus.
..:or Baloo the bear.

We have really enjoyed swim lessons! Beckett has learned to blow bubbles in the water. (He doesn't usually put his whole face in, and this always generates a huge smile!). He is getting really good at kicking and making a splash when he does. He loves jumping in to me and seems to have no fear. (We compare that to penguins jumping in.) Floating on his back is challenging, and the instructor said it would be one of the hardest skills. We try to compare it to floating down the river like Baloo. He's making progress! He loves "zooming" and swimming as fast as a "cheetah shark". He flaps his fins like: a giant stingray, Nemo, Dory, and sea turtles. Finally, he loves the slide, but last time when he got to the top (I wait to catch him at the bottom as he hits the water), he said, "I'm scared, Mommy!" I told him he could get down, but he decided to go down anyway! After i caught him, he was laughing and smiling and said, "I did it myself!"

I just want the water to be fun for him rigt know so he is open to taking lessons and leaning how to be safe in the water. We have one week left of lessons during this session. It's been a blast!

5 weeks old

We're going to have to bust out the wrinkle cream: My sweet cupcake is already 5 weeks old! She had her first Bjorn ride today, since she's over 8 pounds now!

First Library Visit

Today was Harper's first visit to the library. Beckett was an excellent tour guide!

Funny Boy

Beckett was on a roll today! Here are a few of his one-liners:

There's a horse! (Me: Where?) oh, we already passed it.

(Me: There's the thicket!) ooh, I want to take a peek in there.

(Me: what animal would you like to be?) An eagle! I can fly. With you, mommy! We go together in the sky!

I want to swim in the ocean. (We list every sea creature we can think of,) I poke sea anemones. They are squishy.

There's a buggy. I like em.

I chase me! Chase me, mommy!

I'm a T. rex. I'm going to roar sissy.

(Do you need a new diaper?) goodness, no!

(Referencing the librarian) what's her name? (You may ask her, if you'd like.) what's your name? (Mrs. Lane. What's yours?) Beckett James Hild. (Subsequently, to everyone we saw today) What's your name? What's your name?

(While sipping a fruit smoothie) I like smoothies. Mmm. Scrumptious.

I wanna eat cake.

You're my friend, momma.

(And still one of my all-time favorites). Hold you, Momma.

Today's finale, though, was him eating a pickle...in the bath tub.

1 month!

Harper is one month old!

At her doctor's appointment, she weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 21 inches long! She is doing really well and is such a sweet baby. She has had some issues with reflux, so Dr. Leifheit prescribed some medication for us to try.

Here are a couple of photos - one from the doctor's appointment and one from her one-month photo shoot. :)

Eye Spy

Harper's right eye has been a little sick this week. I also feel like her eyes are lightening up, with a very pale circle obvious around the pupil. Maybe she will have Daddy's eyes after all!

Civic Center

Beckett's first swim lessons were this week. We went to the Covoc Center for swimming on Monday at 5:45, and we will go again on Thursday evening. We practiced blowing bubbles and three different holds in the water. Beckett also jumped off the side to me and went down the slide as few times. He loved it!

On Wednesday, we went to the CC before library to run a little and play ball. I can't believe how grown-up he looks in these pictures!

Visitors

We have had lots of visitors come to meet Miss Harper! I haven't been great about taking pictures, unfortunately, but here are some of the Holts, Julia and Joni, Casey and Smitty, and Treva.

We have also had a wonderful ministry from The Vineyard with people bringing meals three times a week!

Happy birthday, Sweet Beckett!

We celebrated Beckett's second birthday on a gorgeous Sunday with both sets if grandparents and Uncle Jay. We grilled steak and potatoes and had salad, asparagus, corn on the cob, fruit salad, and (of course) cake and ice cream!

We played outside for a little while and Beckett drove his new tractor. Then he opened presents, we ate, sang happy birthday, and had cake. It wa wonderful!

Beckett is a very verbal two-year-old. He speaks in complete sentences and is very capable of communicating what he thinks, wants, feels, and needs. He has recently started asking "why?" very frequently, which we love. He remembers just about everything you tell him, and he is a little sponge. He is sweet and compassionate, and if someone is upset, it really bothers him. He is perceptible of feelings and asks about others all the time. He says hi to everyone wherever we go and loves to smile.

He has blessed our lives beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and I love him more than words can say! It has been awesome to have so much time with him this spring! I am so thankful!

Here are some questions I asked him on his birthday:

Who is your best friend? Sissy

What is you favorite food? Rice (I don't know if he's had rice more than once in his life, so this one was hilarious.)

What is your favorite color? Red

What is your favorite animal? Giraffe

What is your favorite movie? Aladar (Dinosaur, by Disney)

What is your favorite toy? Monkey (Abu, which is also funny because he doesn't really play with it too much anymore. )

What do you want your job to be? An animal. Which one? A fish.

First church outing!

As part of Beckett's birthday, we went to church as a family for the first time. It was such a wonderful day to go for the fest time. Ten people, including my dear friend, Joni, were baptized! It was awesome and so emotional!

Beckett got to go to the 2 year old room for the first time, and Miss Harper Jane stayed with us. She wanted to be held, and I happily obliged. Funnily enough, the kids came in to worship for the baptisms, and the nursery worker was holding Beckett. I'm sure he wanted to be held, too. I love how he is so cuddly and sweet!

It was a beautiful day!

Harper at 3 weeks!

Harper is a wry strong little girl! She is eager to hold up her head and she loves tummy time after diaper changes. She laughs in her sleep and snorts, too! I'm happy to see her plumping up! Plus, her sleep has established into a pretty regular schedule, which is wonderful! She eats at about 10:30/11, is up at 2:30/3, and JT again until 5:30/6. It's been going really well and I am so thankful for the sleep!

She is a fashionista (not by choice, haha) and I love playing dress up with my sweet little doll. She is such a happy little peach and we love her!

Puddin Head

We made pudding pops today after getting inspiration from the dollar tree's Popsicle forms. ;). As you can see, my sous chef enjoyed the process!

Favorite Sayings

Here are a few things Beckett says frequently that we love:

-Hold you? (When he wants to be held or to cuddle)
-No, thanks! (In response to anything he doesn't want to do. e.g.; Beckett, please put your book away. No thanks!)
-I've got Mommy's iPad (accompanied by ornery grin)! (To alert me that he has my iPad and plans to get on PBS Kids without asking.)
-Let's sing Lion King songs!
-Beckett James Hild (anytime someone asks him, "what's your name?)
-Yep. 'Bout cows and cheetahs (his daily morning response when asked if he had any dreams the night before)
-I don't like it. It's too spicy!
-Run like a Deere! (On repeat, while running around the island)
-What's happening? (After spinning in circles)
-See ya later, Mommy. Going to work in Sullivan. In my office. (While walking toward door)
-I NEED some. (When told no about candy/pop/tea/cookies/etc)
-I love you.

Birdhouse Building

On Wednesday, Beckett and Papa found some scrap wood and decided to build a bird feeder. Thy had lots of fun and we ended up trying to paint it later that day. When it's finished, we'll put it next to the two birdhouses Beckett has made this spring.

Banker

We went to the bank today to open Beckett's Kid's Account. He has really been enjoying putting change in his piggy banks from his MeeMaws, and they were getting pretty full! First, we sorted the pennies, nickels, dines, and quarters, and then we took them to the bank. He got o dump the change into the change counter, which he loved, and then we met with Joyce to open his account. He was so patient and good, asking lots of questions and exploring the bank while we waited. It was a fun adventure!
