On Monday, we had the day off from school to celebrate Veterans Day. Shonn went hunting in the morning and Beckett, Harper and I played. Then, about 10, Beckett and I headed to Decatur for a Mommy-Son Special Date. My parents used to do that with us so we would each have some special time with them, and I remember those "dates" really fondly. Dad and I would occasionally go to a Cubs game, and Mom and I would usually go see a movie, or go shopping. It wasn't really about the "what" but more about how it made each of us feel to have their full attention. So I usually take Harpy wherever I go, and that sometimes means Shonn and Beckett have "Guys' Days", but Beckett and I hadn't had a day like that since Sesame Street Live. So on Monday, we headed off on a date!
First, we went to Target and started with some Starbucks. This is the second year I've gotten a similar pictures.
While we were there, he played with all the toys and picked out some Christmas presents. (A Fisher Price iPhone carrier for Dad, a walking puppy for Sissy, a dinosaur for Papa K., a singing monkey for Mee Maw K,. a tractor for Papa H., and a book for Mee Maw H.) He also loudly proclaimed, "I need some privacy!" nearly clearing out one of the aisles while he took care of business. Then he smiled at me and said, "Change my diaper, momma." Cute. Really cute. I think that might be a sign of readiness... ?
Anyway, we finished up at Target and headed to the Children's Museum in Decatur, where we had his second birthday party. He absolutely loved it! His favorite part was this wall made of pins that you can push on to make hand impressions. You can go on both sides, so we pushed back and forth and he was cracking up. He also loved the water table, which isn't too surprising, since he has always loved playing with (or in) water. He was tentative in the Sensory Room, which was a bit overwhelming even for me... But he had a great time.
We went to Steak and Shake for lunch, where he can get a cheeseburger, chicken and fries, but the line was so long and he was right at nap time, so we got the food to go. He stayed awake until we got home, and then Beckett, Harpy and I all took a nap while Shonn went hunting. I love those cuddly times!
It was a fabulous day!

I love the two pictures, taken a year apart. That boy is so cute, a perfect blend of you and Shonn.
