Amish Animals

Tuesday afternoon, Mom and Dad arranged for us to visit some Amish farms so Beckett could see some animals up close.  He loves animals and is really good at identifying them and making their sounds.  The look on his face was priceless each time he saw one of the animals move and realized it was real!  And RIGHT. THERE!  Thanks, Grammy and Gramps, for setting up such a fun adventure!
At Dorothy's house - her eldest son, Laverne, went out into the field to chase the horses in... They were not happy about having their leisure afternoon of snacking interrupted.  He chased the horses for about ten minutes - without shoes on! - until they finally got into the barn.  The dog helped, too!

Beckett also loved their machinery.

This was the moment he realized the horses were moving.  And real.  He began to neigh. And continued for the next several shots.

Still chasing those horses.  Still neighing.

What a wonderful family to let us come over and see their animals.  They were wonderful hosts - so friendly.

Petting Shirley, the Shetland pony.

He wasn't too sure about sitting on Shirley without Mom.  Dorothy really wanted to make sure he had an opportunity for a pony ride.

Checking us out.

This one wasn't shy.  I think it was because Beckett called him over with his cow whispering techniques." MMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOO!" (repeat, repeat, repeat)

See?  It's working!

On to the next farm, where we got to see donkeys, goats, and the rare, rare animal known as a barn cat.

Of course, the goats were my favorite by far.  Beckett is really getting the hang of Baa for sheep and Maa for goats - that's new this week.  Up until this week, he's made the noises interchangeably.

Here, Beckett is singing and calling to the goats as he ran back and forth.

Then, he spotted the cat.

And chased the poor thing...

...wherever it went.

I'll get you, kitty! MEOW!
Dorothy said, "Oh, I think Beckett could be a farm boy!" She is right.  He loves animals and I love that about him.
