Ear Infection
Sadly, Beckett had his first ear infection. I actually made an appointment because he had a lot of drainage and a chesty cough. I was worried it might turn into pnemonia or something. I also knew it could be a first-time-mom-freaks-out-about-nothing type appointment, but I decided that if it was, I just might give the nurses something to laugh about...and who doesn't like to bring a little laughter into other people's lives? Turns out that it wasn't pnemonia or anything even near the chest area. When Dr. Willett looked into Beckett's (waxy and hairy, as previously coined by the doctor) left ear, he gave a, "Whoa!" and quickly told us it was infected. The sweet little boy hadn't even been crying or fussy with it. Janis said that's how Shonn was when he was a baby, too. So, Dr. Willett prescribed this antibiotic and sent us on our way. (Did I mention he squeezed us in on a Friday afternoon? Very cool of him.) Anyway, Shonn went on and on about how much he liked this kind of medicine when he was little, so I was hoping for Beckett to have his dad's tendencies in this area, too. Not so much, it turns out. When we gave him the first dose of it, I seriously thought he was gagging or drowning or something equally horrible. His little face scruched up and he started coughing and spewing bubble-gum-flavored medicine everywhere. He also started crying. Loudly.
Now, a week later, he still doesn't like it, but we can get it in his mouth without a shower of pink sticky stuff. His drainage is all cleared up and the cough is gone, too. We go back for another visit in a couple weeks.
